According to Rolling Stone, the incident took place during Ballerini’s performance at Outlaw Field at the Idaho Botanical Garden. Twitter account Kelsea Central posted a video of the moment when a flying object hit the singer in the face.

Ballerini immediately stepped away from the microphone. After a moment, she began strumming her guitar again as if she intended to continue the performance. However, she ultimately ended up choosing to head backstage.

It’s not clear from the video what the object was, although fans speculated that it was a bracelet. Ballerini later confirmed this on Instagram. Rolling Stone explains that fans at Ballerini’s concerts have been making friendship bracelets to trade, like Taylor Swift fans have done during the Eras tour.

Ballerini isn’t the first artist this month to be hit in the face when a concertgoer threw something. Bebe Rexha was injured when someone threw a phone at her during a recent performance. The singer had to go to the hospital.

Ballerini eventually returned to the stage to continue the concert. On Thursday, she took to Instagram to post a series of concert photos, sharing that she only has two stops left on her Heartfirst Tour.

The singer added in parentheses, “ps- i’m fine, let’s just do a better job of keeping each other safe at shows. ily.” Ballerini also posted about the incident on her Instagram stories, confirming that she was hit in the eye by a bracelet.

She wrote that “it more so just scared me than hurt me,” adding that “we all have triggers and layers of fears way deeper than what is shown.” Ballerini explained that she left the stage “to calm down and make sure myself, band and crew, and the crowd all felt safe to continue.”
