According to Rolling Stone, the incident took place during Ballerini’s performance at Outlaw Field at the Idaho Botanical Garden. Twitter account Kelsea Central posted a video of the moment when a flying object hit the singer in the face.
Ballerini immediately stepped away from the microphone. After a moment, she began strumming her guitar again as if she intended to continue the performance. However, she ultimately ended up choosing to head backstage.
It’s not clear from the video what the object was, although fans speculated that it was a bracelet. Ballerini later confirmed this on Instagram. Rolling Stone explains that fans at Ballerini’s concerts have been making friendship bracelets to trade, like Taylor Swift fans have done during the Eras tour.
Ballerini isn’t the first artist this month to be hit in the face when a concertgoer threw something. Bebe Rexha was injured when someone threw a phone at her during a recent performance. The singer had to go to the hospital.
