Kelly Clarkson recently chatted with actress Mila Kunis on her talk show, and the pair got to talking about parenthood. Clarkson shared that she tries to make sure her kids get along with each other, especially after she and her ex-husband Brandon Blackstock divorced.
Kelly Clarkson Talks Parenting After Divorce
Kunis shared that her two kids (whom she shares with husband Ashton Kutcher) became “really close” during the Covid-19 pandemic. Clarkson, who shares a son and a daughter with Blackstock, agreed that she wants her kids to be friends.
“I tell my kids this all the time, I’m like, ‘You’re each other’s buddies. You’re like two years apart,'” Clarkson shared. “And especially because we went through a divorce, so they go their dad’s and mine. So it’s like any time you travel, you’ve always got each other.”
She added that when her kids fight, she always tries to get them to be “like buddies.” Clarkson also tells them to “stick up for each other” and not “tattletale all the time on me.”
Kunis shared that her father told her, “The greatest thing your kids can have is a common enemy, and if you’re their common enemy, they will be the closest kids on the planet.”
Clarkson Is Working on an Album Inspired by Divorce
Last month, Clarkson shared that she’s working on a new album of songs inspired by her experience getting a divorce from ex Brandon Blackstock. This will be the singer’s first non-Christmas studio album since 2017’s Meaning of Life.
Clarkson shared that she recorded the album “quite some time ago,” adding that the songs “cover the gamut of emotions.” As she explained, “It’s almost like the arc of a relationship, because the beginning is so beautiful and so sweet, and then it evolves. And sometimes it doesn’t evolve how you want.”
