The Voice is officially back with the next spin off series, The Voice Battle of Champions, featuring champion coaches, Adam Levine, Kelly Clarkson, and John Legend. The new series, with premiered on Monday, February 23, is available to stream now on Peacock or next day on Hulu.
Along with a new season comes a new theme and a bunch of surprises. This season, the theme is sports, featuring sports themed gifts and a sports themed competition. Biggest twist that’s already been revealed is the coach with the most Triple-Chair turn artists will earn an advantage, a super steal down the line.
Adam Levine Wins First Triple-Chair Turn of Season
The first singer of the season was Lucas West, a twenty year old from Fairport, NY. Ahead of his audition, he discussed his inspirations, Billy Joel and Elton John. He sang “Bennie and The Jets” by John in his audition, turning the chairs of Levine and Legend.
Levine complimented Lucas on his ability to be a full package, both piano player and performer. In turn, Legend fought hard for the singer, even name dropping his famous friends. Eventually, Lucas chose to join Team Legend.
The next artist to take the stage was Alexia Jayy, who performed (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman by Carole King. Alexia earned the first Triple-Chair turn of the season. Coaches clearly were interested in Alexia’s incredible voice, noting that her voice is incredibly unique and unlike anything they’ve heard on the show before.
The singer and mother eventually brought her son Matthew on stage, who shared that he loves Maroon Five. Levine was clearly thrilled about this, since the singer noted how important her son is to her musical journey. He ultimately thought this would help sway her to his team.
As expected, Alexia chose to join Levine’s team. Following this singer was 19 year old Julia Golden, who sang “Strawberry Wine” by Deana Carter. She turned the chairs of both Legend and Clarkson. To help Legend’s argument, Julia was shown a video of McEntire endorsing him as a country artist’s coach. In rebuttal, Clarkson called McEntire to question her about the endorsement. Ultimately, Julia chose to join Team Kelly.
Also performing on this episode was 17 year old Landon Price, who sang “Glory” by Common and John Legend. Unfortunately, he did not earn any chair turns.
Kelly Clarkson Brings Her Charm Back to The Voice
The next Triple-Chair turn was a mysterious singer, singing “Call Your Girlfriend” by Robyn. After the song was over, the singer was identified as 25 year old Abigayle Oakley. The coaches fought to earn Abigayle on their team, Clarkson pointed out her natural strengths, as well as what her game plan for winning the show should be. Ultimately, Abigayle chose to join Team Kelly.
The next singer, Jonah Mayor, who’s currently apart of a boy band group that performs 2000’s music, decided to break his boyband mold and sing an Italian song. He sang “Il Mondo” by Jimmy Fontana. Clarkson immediately turned for this singer, followed by Levine. After Jonah finished his song, Clarkson went up to him to congratulate the singer for his incredible performance. In the end, Jonah chose to join Team Kelly.
Up next was Bay Simpson, who has Elvis in his family tree, took the stage singing “The Waiting” by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers. At the last minute, Levine turned his chair for Bay. By default, Bay joins Team Adam.
The next singer was Liv Ciara, who auditioned unsuccessfully for Season 28 with “Espresso” by Sabrina Carpenter. This time around she sang “we can’t be friends, fight for your love” by Ariana Grande, earning chair turns from Clarkson and Levine. Unsurprisingly, Liv chose to join Team Kelly.
Following was Broadway singer, 43 year old Aaron Lavigne, who sang “Feels Like the First Time” by Foreigner. At the end of the song, both Clarkson and Legend turned for the singer. This singer had a clear link to Aaron, with family in Ohio and having played Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. Surprisingly, Aaron chose to join Team Kelly.
Up next was a mysterious singer, who was later revealed as AJ Robinson, who sang “Watermelon Moonshine” by Lainey Wilson. The 14 year old singer, turned the chair of Legend. Since Legend was the only coach that turned, he’ll be joining Team Legend by default.
The final singer of the episode was 40 year old Jeremy Keith, who sang “You Are My Lady” by Freddy Jackson. He became the next Triple-Chair turn of the competition. Between the three coaches, it’s agreed that Legend would be the best coach, since Jeremy’s forte is R&B. To get Jeremy to consider him as his coach, Legend dueted his his “Ordinary People” with him. Ultimately, the singer decided to join Team Adam.
