Kelly Clarkson Meets Family Who Adopted Three Children
In 2019, Kelly spoke to Rick and Keia Jones-Baldwin, a couple with three adopted children. That includes their youngest son, 2-year-old Princeton. They discussed their experience as a Black couple adopting a White baby.

Keia said she didn’t know Princeton was White before she met him, and she admitted she was surprised at first. Then she put him to her chest for skin-to-skin, and she “fell in love with him.”
The experience hasn’t been without its challenges, however. Keia shared that a lot of people stare at them in public, and some have even called the police on her. She’s had to show documentation proving Princeton is her son.
Keia also shared that she believes it’s important for her children to stay in contact with their biological families. She even calls them her “bonus families.”
Birth Father Thanks Family For Adopting His Son
After Keia shared her philosophy for keeping in contact with her kids’ birth families, Kelly invited Princeton’s biological father John on stage. He had first reconnected with the family a few weeks before.

Keia got emotional as she and John hugged. He thanked the family for adopting Princeton. “At the time, I was 17. I wasn’t ready,” he explained. “I’m really, really grateful for your guys.”
Kelly called John “a real man” for being able to make the decision to give his son a better life. Keia, meanwhile, said, “This is our son,” pointing to John. That made Kelly teary-eyed. “A village raises a kid,” she said.
