Katy Perry has shown off her diversity as an artist each time she takes the American Idol stage. After nearly five seasons on the series, here are her best performances on the series.
6. “Love is All You Need”
In 2021, Perry took the stage alongside her fellow judges, Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie as well as the season’s performers. This short Hollywood Week performance was pre-recorded and very staged. It made sense for the portion of the competition they were in, but I prefer the live performances.
5. Her Collaboration with Daddy Yankee
In 2019, Perry took the American Idol stage to sing her new tune “Con Calma.” This was one of the most memorable judge performances because of the fun set and number of dancers. I thought this performance was fun, it made me want to get up and dance.
4. “Unconditionally” With Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon
In the season 17 finale, Perry took the stage to sing “Unconditionally” alongside Perry. This is probably one of my favorite performances of this song on talent shows. Perry and Jeremiah harmonized perfectly, which makes this performance so breathtaking.
3. “Part of Me” With Catie Turner
Perry kept her word and performed with Catie in the American Idol season 16 finale. Even though this singer was eliminated in the Top 7, she returned for the finale to sing a stripped down version of “Part of Me” with Perry. I loved this performance because the judge ensured that Catie’s vocals would shine by taking the lower portion of their harmonization.
2. “Firework” with Leah Marlene
Perry assisted in creating a full circle moment for Leah on American Idol season 20. Ahead of the finale, Perry saw a video of Leah singing “Firework” at the age of nine. The judge took the stage with the singer and her father to recreate this performance with the family. No matter how they sounded, Perry created the perfect moment for the 20 year old singer.
1. “Thinking of You” With Hunter Metts
This season 19 performance was outstanding because Perry played the guitar alongside Hunter. The rawness of this performance made it the ultimate performance by Perry on this series. Everything about this performance was perfect. Their acoustics, harmonization, and stage presence were absolute perfection.
