Perry teased the new song release on social media last week, sharing a snippet of the track. The artwork for the new single features Perry with her classic long dark hair — a definite departure from the shorter, blonder styles she’s been known to rock in recent years.
The singer announced the release of the song on Wednesday by tweeting that it’s perfect “for your pre-NYE dance party vibes… you’ll see.” And she’s totally right, as the song has an addictive beat that will make you want to get up and dance.
“When I’m gone, I’m never really gone / You think you’re moving on / But it won’t be for long, you’ll see,” Perry sings on the track. Unfortunately, the song is less than three minutes long, so you might want to hit that repeat button.
The lyric video has a dystopian vibe, featuring abandoned places and a robotic dog. According to Pitchfork, an official video will premiere January 10 during the College Football Playoff National Championship on ESPN.

Who Is Perry’s Collaborator, Alesso?
Alesso, whose full name is Alessandro Renato Rodolfo Lindblad, is a Swedish DJ and producer. He’s worked with artists such as Tove Lo, Ryan Tedder, Hailee Steinfeld, and Liam Payne. Alesso released his debut album Forever in 2015.
Perry and Alesso recently spoke to Zane Lowe of Apple Music about the collaboration. The singer shared that she would frequently send Alesso notes about making “the smallest tweaks” to the song as she listened to it over and over again.
Alesso said he didn’t mind Perry’s perfectionism, sharing, “I love when artists are getting more involved and have pointers, because it’s a collab.”
