In July 2020, Carl Westcott reportedly signed a real estate contract to sell his home to the couple. However, Westcott claims that he was under the influence of painkillers after back surgery, and when the effects wore off, he rescinded the contract.
The couple’s agents allegedly threatened to sue Westcott if he didn’t proceed with the sale. Westcott was 80 at the time of the sale and has reportedly suffered from Huntington’s disease since 2015. He claims he never even listed the property and had planned to live there “for the rest of his life.”
“The combination of his age, frailty from his back condition and recent surgery, and the opiates he was taking several times a day rendered Mr. Westcott of unsound mind,” the complaint reads, according to The Daily Mail.
A few days after his surgery, Westcott was apparently presented with Perry and Bloom’s offer for the home, which was more than he had paid for it in May 2020. Despite signing the document, Westcott’s lawyers claim he was “unable to understand the nature and probable consequences of his actions.”

A Trial Is Set for This Month
According to The Daily Mail, a trial over the matter is set for later this month. Westcott will not attend the trial, as he is reportedly bedridden due to his disease. His lawyers are arguing that the contract to sell his home is “voidable” due to his mental state at the time.
The outlet points out that this isn’t the first time Perry has had legal problems related to real estate. The singer was previously embroiled in a legal battle surrounding a convent she purchased in Los Angeles in 2015.
Perry and Bloom have been engaged since 2019. They share a daughter together named Daisy Dove, who turns 3 years old later this month.
