Katy Perry during the 'American Idol' 2024 finale

Former American Idol judge Katy Perry might want to stick to performing on solid ground from now on. For the second time on her current Lifetimes tour, the pop star suffered a malfunction while suspended in midair. This time, the mishap occurred during her show in San Francisco.

Katy Perry Almost Falls from Midair During Concert

According to Billboard, the scary moment happened during Friday night’s show at the Chase Center in San Francisco. In a video captured by a fan, Perry can be seen riding on a giant butterfly prop which hangs from a wire.

As Perry belts out her song “Roar,” the prop suddenly appears to malfunction, suddenly dropping her slightly. The singer lets out a shout as it goes down. The butterfly then sways back and forth as Perry continues to hold on. She then continues singing.

After the show, Billboard reports that Perry took to Instagram stories to share a screenshot of her frightened expression in the moment, writing, “Goodnight San Fran.” Video of the mishap has since gone viral on social media.

Perry Had a Similar Incident in Australia

If you can believe it, this isn’t the first time Perry has had a midair incident during her Lifetimes tour. During a concert in Australia in June, Perry was preparing to perform inside a large hanging sphere which suddenly tilted, throwing her off balance.

The singer managed to hold on, and crew members quickly arrived to set things straight, but it was undoubtedly a scary moment for the star. And she’s not the only touring artist to deal with malfunctioning props recently.

During Beyoncé’s recent Cowboy Carter show in Houston, the flying car she rides in tilted during her performance of “16 Carriages,” and she had to be lowered down.
