Katy Perry is once again making waves in the world of music. The American Idol judge along with Alesso will be the first artists to ever have a global music video debut within a live event on ESPN.
“When I’m Gone” by Alesso and Perry will premiere during the 2022 College Football Playoff National Championship later this week. On December 29, the network shared a teaser featuring the two singers to their YouTube channel. This teaser featured the new song with visuals from both the singers and accomplished football teams.
ESPN Set to Premiere Music Video Debut During Halftime Show
Although this isn’t ESPN’s first time having a musical College Football National Championship halftime show, it’s their first time that it will not be live. In the past they’ve had artists like Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons perform during the live broadcast. The network has shared that they think their platform is a great place to share new music. They think musical halftime shows will add to the culture of the event as a whole.
“We are so excited for Alesso and Katy Perry’s music video to premiere in a first of its kind campaign with ESPN,” Gabriela Henriques, Director Creative Sync & Sports Marketing at CMG said in a press release. “This is a stellar example of the synergy between music and sports, and how intertwined they are in today’s culture. There isn’t a better event than halftime of the College Football National Championship to debut a song like ‘When I’m Gone.'”
Perry is not a stranger to the world of football. She was previously featured on ESPN as the College GameDay guest picker in 2014 for the Alabama-Ole Miss game. This singer is known for pushing the boundaries of social normalities in both her songs and music videos. She’s notably one of the most daring artists so it’s no surprise that she’s willing to try out such a new and widespread format to release her music. The singer has shared her excitement for this historical event on her Instagram.
“You know I love a halftime mome. So excited that the #WHENIMGONE music video is premiering during halftime of the 2022 #CFBPlayoff Championship game,” Perry wrote.
The college football championships will air on ESPN as well as the networks streaming service, ESPN live, on January 10 at 8 p.m. This championship game is presented by AT&T.
