Reading Time: 2 minutes
John Legend has revealed his new song recorded for the Space Jam: A New Legacy soundtrack. His song appears alongside other big names in music. The original film’s soundtrack included iconic artists, so it’s no surprise the sequel film is trying to recreate that success.
The soundtrack for Space Jam: A New Legacy was released on July 9, and the movie will be out on July 16. Former Masked Singer contestant Lil Wayne, Chance The Rapper, Lil Uzi Vert, The Jonas Brothers, Salt-N-Pepa (who appeared on the original film’s soundtrack) are just some of the musicians featured.
Legend posted a teaser video of his song on Instagram:
“My song #CrowdGoCrazy is a part of the Space Jam: A New Legacy soundtrack, out today! Check it out now, and catch the movie when it opens July 16 in theatres [sic] and on HBO Max. Link in bio.”
The song has a fun pop groove that even Legend’s kids, Luna and Miles, were dancing to. Fans took to the comments to show their love for the song:
“Love this song. Cannot wait to hear more and see the movie,” said one fan.
“Crowd Goes Wild” Also Serves as YouTube Teaser
Republic Records also posted a lyric video of Legend’s song on YouTube. The lyric video also contains a snippet of the film, and almost could be considered another trailer.
This highly anticipated sequel features Lebron James, who gets kidnapped then has to work with Bugs Bunny to win a basketball game. The lyric video features James going into the toon world. Then, the trailer shows a sneak peek at James playing basketball with the Looney Toons, much like the original film.
Fans in the comments of the YouTube video are talking about how much more excited they are for this film, because of the lyric video.
“Just like that a lyric video has me even more hyped for this movie!! The Wonder Woman world having a comic book theme is great,” said a fan on YouTube.
It’s really cool to see the idea behind the 1996 film coming back to the screen with modern day animation. The original Space Jam did great in theaters, so I’m interested to see how the sequel does.
With only four days until the release of the Space Jam sequel, the soundtrack is currently #20 on the iTunes charts. Be sure to check out the movie in theaters or on HBO Max this weekend.
