Jinkx Monsoon Explains the Differences Between Her Drag at 24 Years Old, 34 Years Old
Jinkx Monsoon has made herself the queen to watch on RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7. After not competing in nearly a decade, this queen is the first to earn two stars on the all winners season.
Jinkx Monsoon joined the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7 to prove that her drag has been taken up a notch since 2013. This queen’s drag has landed her in the top two of the night twice on this season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars. After four weeks of the competition, Jinkx has the most stars and cash, out of all eight competitors.
Many fans of RuPaul’s Drag Race remember Jinkx as the smart, quick witted, and talented queen with a lack of aesthetic. While she was great in most challenges, Jinkx often received criticism for her lack of aesthetic and style. Since day one of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7, she’s been rocking the runway with her new looks. Jinkx is truly dominating the competition in all aspects right now.
When asked if RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 7 is different from the original show, Jinkx explains that before she was “plucked from obscurity.” This time is different because she’s already found herself with her drag persona.
Jinkx Finds Her Most Authentic Self Through Drag
After earning the title of America’s Next Drag Superstar, Jinkx spent time trying to meet fan expectation. Throughout attempting to find the person everyone else wanted, she remembered why she began drag in the first place. In 2022, her drag is now an authentic version of herself, more than it was when she originally won the series in 2013.
If you remember anything about Jinkx, you probably recall that she is famous for not knowing how to sew. Even though plenty of her competitors are talented designers, Jinkx didn’t learn to sew before the spin off series.
“I wish I could say I’ve been working on [my sewing skills] through the years, but the downside to being super busy creating all the shows and working as hard as I’ve worked over the past decade is that there hasn’t been a lot of extra time to acquire new skills,” Jinkx said. “So I would say that my sewing skills haven’t improved drastically since my last time.
Jinkx confirms if she ever ends up in a situation where she has to design something again, she will go for something she can pull off. With the other queens in the competition, she admits a design challenge isn’t the one she will win.
