Weeks after facing elimination on The Voice, Jim and Sasha Allen appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Once the series ended, Sasha stayed active on social media and has shared original song snippets on Twitter. Today, Jim and Sasha sat down with DeGeneres to talk about their experience on the show.

In the beginning of the interview, Sasha shared the story of how their duo came to be. During the Covid-19 lockdown, he and his father were playing music together around the house and eventually decided to audition for The Voice for fun. Sasha noted that he was prepared to have no chair turns going into their audition.

Obviously, we know that they were able to turn chairs during their audition. They remained on Team Ariana until the Top 8 where they faced elimination. They were a clear fan favorite on their team alongside Holly Forbes who originally was on Team Kelly.

Sasha Continues to Share His Story Through Social Media Following The Voice

DeGeneres brought up the fact that Sasha was the first openly transgender person to make it as far as he did on the history of the American version of The Voice. She shared that she loved the fact that they were so open about Sasha’s story of becoming himself.

“I came out the summer before sophomore year and it was a really hard experience, as it is for every transgender person,” Sasha said. “There’s not really a choice in the matter of coming out because it’s either, you know you can’t live with that pain anymore, you just have to be yourself.”

While on The Voice, the Team Ariana members gained followers on social media. With the giant exposure on television, Sasha was provided the platform to share his story.

“I made the decision to share my story in this way because if I could just help one kid whos in the position I was in or help somebody to understand who knows nothing about transgender people or never met a trans person, it would all be worth it,” Sasha said.

While talking about Sasha’s experiences, DeGeneres pointed out that Jim’s support wasn’t overlooked on the series. On the talk show, Jim talked about what it’s like to have your child come out as transgender.

“It’s important to acknowledge that this would be disorienting for any parent. Especially when you take time to realize that the suffering that has been occuring that your child has been dealing with this for years, coming to terms with it and having the courage to talk about it openly is the time for parents to listen,” Jim said.

Both Jim and Sasha spoke on how thankful they are for their time on The Voice. They acknowledged that they loved the way NBC went on to tell Sasha’s story. Although there was no talk of new music on the rise, I’m sure this duo will continue to sing the classics together.
