Jennifer Lopez and Alex Rodriguez have officially split, and it seems like this time it is for good. Breakup rumors have circulated over the past few months and fans were hoping it wasn’t true. Hollywood’s most famous couple shared the sad news in an exclusive statement on TODAY.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the joint statement says. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

The World of Dance star, 51 and Rodriguez, 45 began dating in 2017. They got engaged in 2019 during a romantic getaway after raving about each other in the media for years. He was even there to cheer her on during her Super Bowl halftime show performance in 2020, and her 2021 Inauguration performance.
In March, a story circulated that the couple broke off their engagement and were calling it quits.
“We are working through some things,” they said in a statement to People at the time. “All the reports are inaccurate,” they further clarified in a statement sent to The Associated Press.
Lopez shares 13-year-old twins Max and Emme with ex-husband Marc Anthony. Rodriguez has daughters Natasha, 16 and Ella, 12 with ex-wife Cynthia Scurtis. Sources close to the couple told Entertainment Tonight that the children wanted their parents to work the relationship out.
“They never officially broke up and talked about it but are still together. They hit a rough patch. But were not broken up,” a source close to the pair told People in March. “She’s working in the Dominican Republic and he’s in Miami so it’s tough seeing each other especially with quarantining and COVID, but they want to try to stay together.”

Rodriguez and Lopez postponed their wedding in Italy due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
“We have to go with the flow now,” the former baseball player said during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “Everything is fluid. Everything has been just on a pause. We just want to make sure we think safety first to make sure all the little ones are all in a good place.”
Both Lopez and Rodriguez have yet to post anything about their breakup on social media. Many were speculating that the relationship was on the rocks when the World of Dance judge posted several pictures without her engagement ring. Lopez is currently in the Dominican Republic shooting the film Shotgun Wedding.

Rodriguez was accused of cheating on Lopez with Southern Charm star Madison LeCroy in January. The couple shot down the allegations and were dedicated to working on their relationship at the time.
