Ren Patrick Shared Abusive Relationship Story On ‘American Idol’

Ren was with someone who would say that she was “worthless” or “garbage.” When her ex-boyfriend pushed it too far she finally had the courage to open up to those close to her about what was going on. One day Ren got in her car and just left to be with her family.

During her American Idol audition, Ren actually spoke about meeting Katy at a Hollywood party over seven years ago. She was having “a pretty nasty argument” with her boyfriend at the time and Katy walked by muttering “ew girl dump him” under her breath. Ren eventually took Katy’s advice and is so much happier now.

She sang “Dancing on My Own” by Robyn. “Well I don’t know about you but music for me is the best therapy and it gets me through everything and when I was younger before I started writing my own songs I would hear a song and be like ‘Oh my gosh this is exactly what I’m going through, I’m so glad I’m not alone in this world'” Katy said. “And you’re not alone in this world.”

“Well if you were with a guy that didn’t encourage you and didn’t tell you you were great, he is just a bad dude and I’m glad you’re away from him,” Luke Bryan said. He went on to call her “an incredible singer.” All of the judges agreed that Ren is someone that people can look up to and relate to. She was sent to Hollywood where she sang “Shallow” by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper in a duet with Cameron Havens. She was shockingly eliminated from the competition.

Ren Is Coming Back To ‘Idol’ For A Second Chance

For those who think Ren was eliminated way too early on American Idol, we have some good news for you. She will be on our television screens again because she announced that she auditioned for Season 19. “My dream is to continue to be a voice for the people who don’t feel heard and have been through a similar experience as myself,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“Last year’s audition was so therapeutic for me” she told Talent Recap exclusively. “Most people didn’t know that I was going through my breakup in real-time while going to all of the preliminary auditions. It was the hardest time of my life, and my mom gave me the confidence to try and go for my dreams again.”

“The response from people who watched was incredible” she added. “So many women and men reached out and shared their stories with me telling me that I made them feel less alone, which also made me realize that I was never alone either. American Idol has made me realize my passion for helping survivors of domestic abuse, and for continuing to be vulnerable and honest about my own hardships in hopes that it could help someone else.”
