Gwe(n) + (Ke)lly And The Era Of Girl Power On ‘The Voice’
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Last season on The Voice, Kelly Clarkson was the only female coach on the panel, but the return of Gwen Stefani in Season 17 has doubled the girl power. So far, the pair seem to have a great relationship, and their teams are also stacking up nicely.
It’s nice to see that the show isn’t pushing a rivalry between the two women. Obviously it’s still a competition, and they both want to win, but Kelly and Gwen continue to compliment each other — and they make the perfect team against Blake Shelton.
Kelly Clarkson And Gwen Stefani Bond On ‘The Voice’
Kelly and Gwen have been supporting each other since before the season even started. In a promo for the show, Kelly declared that this season will be about “the blondes against the bros,” implying that she and Gwen are teaming up to take down Blake and last year’s winner John Legend.
“I’m excited to work with Gwen,” Kelly said in another video. “I literally grew up in my room singing to her. So I’m like a superfan.” In the most recent episode, Kelly said she used to sing “Just a Girl.” Gwen responded excitedly, “You did not!”
Kelly even encouraged an artist to go with Gwen over Blake, and in an outtake from the show, Gwen asks to tag along with Kelly during her bathroom break.
Kelly Clarkson And Gwen Stefani Are The Dynamic Duo
The Voice Instagram account even declared Kelly and Gwen to be a “Power Couple.” And when you look at their record so far this Season, it’s hard to argue. So far, they have the most artists on their teams. Gwen has seven, and Kelly has six — compared to John’s five and Blake’s four.
Obviously, the teams will all even out eventually, but it might be a good sign that so many artists seem eager to work with Kelly and Gwen. Their teams also have a majority of women. Four out of seven of Gwen’s artists are female, and Kelly has two female solo artists and a female duo.
As much as we love Shefani, we can’t deny that Gwelly is pretty great, too. We can’t wait to see if Kelly and Gwen perform a duet at some point this season.
