Gigi Hadid Talks Co-Parenting with Ex Zayn Malik: “Be Intentional”

Gigi Hadid is trying to keep a balance between professional work and motherhood. The American supermodel talked about how she and ex Zayn Malik make co-parenting work for their three-year-old daughter, Khai.
Gigi Hadid Opens Up About Balancing Work and Co-Parenting with Zayn Malik
Getting candid about motherhood, the model mom shared her insights on how she juggles her schedule as she co-parents her little girl. Speaking to NET-A-PORTER, Hadid stated that becoming a parent led her to be more deliberate.
“I think when you are a parent, you have to be intentional because, now, I literally have half the time,” she said. “I work when my daughter is with her dad, and that’s the time I have.”
Since they called it quits “for good” in October 2021, Hadid and Malik have been splitting time to spend quality time with Khai. The two are now navigating a 50-50 custody arrangement.
Hadid also expressed how motherhood made her reassess her professional choices. Now, the 28-year-old socialite is only opting for work that can feed her soul.
“And the jobs I choose to fill that time with have to be ones that are fulfilling to me,” Gigi continued. “I will literally fit in as many jobs as I can on those days. I’m sometimes a crazy person, but if it means a lot to me, then I do it.”
That said, if she feels like a project will be a “waste of everyone’s time,” she will not push it through. Noting that she’s seen numerous photos of herself, Hadid already knows if an editorial will be worth it or not.
“I want to do things that are new and feel exciting; where everyone is going to leave feeling fulfilled and that they did something fun that day,” she said.
Back in 2022, Hadid has successfully launched her own knitwear brand, Guest in Residence. Treating such career move as her business “baby,” she now serves as the label’s creative director.
She Revives Old Hobbies to Bond with Khai
Elsewhere in her NET-A-PORTER interview, Hadid shared that she’s been trying to rekindle her old hobbies as Khai is getting older. Lately, she’s building an in-home ceramics studio and has also begun crocheting.
“It’s just a blob with a horn and eyes. It’s hilarious,” she said.
With Guest in Residence under her belt, Hadid has recently launched a vibrant new collection. As per the supermodel, they have already considered having a fashion line for kids, which they expect to arrive “soon.” Hadid subsequently revealed that Khai now serves as their fit model for the upcoming cashmere collection.
“Khai and her best friend are our fit models. They come into the office, Khai tries on one dress and then she’s like, ‘Do you want to go to the donut store?'” she said.
