Since Little Mix has parted ways, Leigh-Anne Pinnock has unleashed her inner solo pop star. The singer recently released her first ever single “Don’t Say Love,” a high-energy and sensational song to compliment the summer heat.
Leigh-Anne Launches Solo Music Career with Brand-New Single
After reaping collective success with the award-winning Little Mix, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, now known as Leigh-Anne, is proving that she’s more than just a girl group member. “Don’t Say Love” is an energy-filled and serious single, perfectly debuting the pop singer as a solo superstar.
Co-written by Gregory Aldae Hein and produced by Jon Bellion and Pete Nappi, the single serves as Leigh-Anne’s liberation outside criticism. According to a statement released through Warner Music, “Don’t Say Love” is about the Little Mix member redeeming identity in a space where she’s frequently misinterpreted.
“Don’t Say Love is about no longer seeking external validation and regaining my confidence and sense of self in a world where I often felt misunderstood and unheard,” Leigh-Anne said.
Leigh-Anne also released an accompanying music video, evidently showing how much she’s grown as an artist. As explained, the visualizer is the representation of her finding her own voice.
“Don’t Say Love” is an Ecstatic, Sentimental Number
For her first solo debut, Leigh-Anne focused on talking about genuine love. The chorus of the single is clear — that one must not pursue romance if they’re half-hearted about it.
“‘Don’t Say Love’ is about wanting to be loved wholeheartedly, [like] the love that I have for myself. If it’s not that, then I don’t want it. That’s a journey, getting there,” the singer shared.
“Don’t Say Love” may be lively and active in tune, but it truly is an emotional single. Nonetheless, with its peppy beats and relatable lyrics, the single could become people’s summer anthem.
Little Mix has been a popular and well-loved girl group locally and abroad. Yet, while each member shining individually, Leigh-Anne admitted that she felt underrated.
“Within the group and in my career, I really felt like a lot of the time I was overlooked and undervalued. I really wanted to get that emotion across in the video: frustration, sadness, anger,” she said.
Now that she has a solo platform, Leigh-Anne is ready to show what she can give as a solo artist. “Don’t Say Love” is a strong start, and we’re definitely looking forward to more sentimental and personal music from her.
