The Voice has featured quite a few celebrity coaches over the years, many of whom have not come back for a number of seasons. Let’s take a look back at a few former coaches we’d love to see return to the show at some point in the future.
Coaches We Want to See Return on The Voice
1. Jennifer Hudson
Former American Idol star Jennifer Hudson was only a coach on the U.S. version of The Voice twice – in Seasons 13 and 15. Although she didn’t win either season, she became the first female coach to win the UK version of the show back in 2017. Much like her fellow coach Kelly Clarkson, Hudson brought her experience as a talent show contestant to the table.
2. Miley Cyrus
Like Hudson, Miley Cyrus was only a coach on The Voice twice – in Seasons 11 and 13. Although she never won, she did make history in Season 13 by coaching the show’s first all-female team. It would be great to have her fun personality back on the panel in a future season.
3. Nick Jonas
Nick Jonas is another former coach who only appeared on the show twice – in Seasons 18 and 20. Jonas famously took his role as a coach very seriously, even jotting down notes about artists’ performances so he could share his feedback. If he ever returned to the show, it would be nice to see him get his first winning artist.
4. Ariana Grande
Ariana Grande only appeared as a coach on The Voice once, in Season 21. In 2024, Grande said she didn’t think she would ever return to the show in the future, saying she got too “emotionally attached to everyone.” But it doesn’t hurt to hope that maybe she’ll change her mind one day.
5. Alicia Keys
Alicia Keys was a three-time coach on The Voice, in Seasons 11, 12, and 14. The singer had a knack for picking interesting and unique artists, including Wé McDonald and Chris Blue, the latter of whom won Season 12. Could she secure a second win if she returned as a coach in a future season?
6. Pharrell Williams
Pharrell had a slightly longer tenure on The Voice than some of the other stars on this list, appearing for four consecutive seasons from 7 to 10. In Season 8, he earned his first and only win as a coach with artist Sawyer Fredericks. It would be cool to see him back on the panel after so many years away.
7. Christina Aguilera
Aguilera was one of the show’s original four coaches, appearing on the show’s first three seasons and later returning for Seasons 5, 8, and 10. She only won once, with artist Alisan Porter in Season 10. It would be amazing to see Aguilera eventually make a comeback after so many seasons away.
8. Blake Shelton
How could we leave this veteran coach off the list? Shelton famously appeared on the show for the first 23 seasons, winning a record nine times. He left the panel in 2023, but perhaps we’ll see him again at some point, after he’s had enough time away from that spinning red chair. After all, his bestie Adam Levine recently made a comeback.
