Kelly Clarkson Covers TLC Song
During Monday’s Kelly Clarkson Show, Kelly performed “Diggin’ On You,” a 1995 song by TLC, from their album CrazySexyCool. Kelly was backed up by her band Y’all as she stood at the microphone in a long black dress.
Kelly showed off some soulful, breathy vocals on the track, swaying back and forth to the music under moody lighting. Toward the end of the song, the singer showed off her range, hitting high notes and belting out the lyrics.
The virtual audience applauded the performance, and commenters on the YouTube video of the segment had plenty of praise for Kelly. “I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone cover this,” one commenter wrote.
Another commenter said it was one of TLC’s “most underrated singles.” One fan wrote that they love Kelly’s “versatility, her rifts, runs, head voice, breath and sheer power.” Someone else called her lower register “so beautiful.”
Kelly’s Other TLC Covers
Billboard points out that this isn’t the first time Kelly has covered a TLC song. Last year, she performed “Unpretty” for the Kellyoke segment on her show, appearing remotely with her band. Check it out above.
Before that, in 2019, Kelly also performed “Waterfalls” on her talk show. The audience swayed along as she belted out the famous track.
Kelly also sang the iconic song “No Scrubs” at a Virginia concert in August 2012. She was accompanied by three back-up singers and encouraged the crowd to sing along to the song.
The host likes to mix things up in her Kellyoke segment, performing contemporary songs by popular artists like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, while also throwing it back to older songs or lesser-known artists.
