Blake Shelton Releases ‘Come Back as a Country Boy’ Video
Shelton recently released the new single “Come Back as a Country Boy,” off the deluxe version of his album Body Language, available December 3. This week, he debuted the official music video for the song, which starts with something fiery falling from space onto earth.
That space stuff creates a bonfire which births a country boy, aka Blake Shelton himself. He steps out of the fire, dons a baseball cap, and takes a swig from a can of beer. Like like he sings in the song, “When I die, I wanna come back as a country boy.”
The rest of the video features Shelton wearing camouflage, driving a truck, putting his boots up on the porch, and exploring the great outdoors, like a country boy does.

Shelton Wears a Cowboy Hat in the New Video
One notable detail from the new music video is that Shelton wears a cowboy hat in several shots. This makes sense, given the theme of the song. But the singer doesn’t make a habit of wearing the classic country accessory. In fact, in 2016 he explained that he was labeled a “hat act” for wearing one, so he decided to take it off.
“I’m not a hat act; I’m a country singer,” Shelton said. “My hat doesn’t define me because it’s just what we did at home. So I finally cut my hair and started fixing it and not being a hat act anymore.”
But fans certainly like to see the star embrace his roots and put a cowboy hat on again. One Twitter user posted a group of images from the video, along with a screencap from Shelton’s Twitter account reading, “Holy moly!!!”
Fans on YouTube also shared their love for the video, with one fan writing that Shelton is “what COUNTRY is all about.” Another said that it “just might be my favorite Blake Shelton music video.” Someone else pointed out that the cowboy hat “still looks good on him.”
