Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan on 'American Idol' 2026

American Idol will return for Season 24 starting on Monday, January 26, at 8/7c on ABC. This year’s competition features a few twists and changes from previous seasons, including a new voting method and a new location for Hollywood Week.

American Idol Returns for Season 24 on Mondays

American Idol Season 24 is premiering earlier in the year than fans might be used to. In recent seasons, the show hasn’t premiered until February or March. The show is also moving to a new night. Instead of the Sunday time slot it has held for several years, this season’s episodes will air on Monday nights.

Fans can watch the show on ABC or stream it the next day on Hulu. Host Ryan Seacrest is back for his 24th consecutive season as host, while last year’s judges Carrie Underwood, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan will be back on the panel.

The first several weeks of the competition will focus on auditions, as hopeful singers perform for the judges in the hope of receiving a Golden Ticket. Usually, this sends them to Hollywood Week. However, Season 24 is changing things up by moving this notoriously competitive round of the competition to Nashville, Tennessee. The round will be called “Hollywood Week: Music City Takeover.”

The Show Introduces New Round, Voting Method

The location of Hollywood Week isn’t the only big change that’s coming this season on American Idol. The show is also introducing a new Ohana Round during the contestants’ traditional stay at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Hawaii.

During this round, the Top 30 contestants will reportedly perform for a group of “industry tastemakers,” as well as their fellow contestants, family, and friends. Three contestants will be chosen to receive the Platinum Ticket, and the competition will be narrowed down to 20.

Additionally, it was recently revealed that American Idol will be introducing a new voting method this season, which will allow viewers to pick their favorite singers on social media. Traditional voting by phone and text will still be available.
