Apparently, Dancing With The Stars pros Peta Murgatroyd and Maks Chmerkovskiy’s plans for Thanksgiving didn’t go as planned. In a series of Instagram stories, Murgatroyd shared how her husband was detained at the airport after an illegal product was found in his carry-on bag.
Maks Chmerkovskiy’s Bag Contained an Illegal Product
On November 26, Murgatroyd told her followers about the unfortunate circumstance that they had to deal with during Thanksgiving. Basically, they were supposed to take a family trip to Turks and Caicos.
“We wanted to get away, for a week, just us, be on the beach and have an amazing time,” she said.
Before they left to the airport, their son Shai was experiencing fever due to his losing first tooth. Shai’s sickness went away, so they proceeded with the trip. However, during their second flight to the Caribbean, Shai’s temperature spiked, requiring them to be extra careful.
They were about to make their way to the hotel, but they were prevented by a customs officer. The DWTS pros willingly obliged, believing that it was just a “random bag check.” However, as the officer went through one of their bags, they found a product the couple didn’t think was illegal — a CBD cream.
For those who may not know, Chmerkovskiy uses CBD cream as pain reliever for his muscles. According to Murgatroyd, her husband didn’t even notice that he brought the product to the trip.
“He looked through every single product, reading the labels of Maks’s,” she said. “So, of course, Maks has a CBD cream in his bag. Cream, no THC, it’s a cream for muscles. He didn’t even know he had it in there.”
He was Released After Paying a Fine
Minutes later, they found themselves being read their Miranda rights. Chmerkovskiy was the one who took responsibility for the cream, so he had to give his passport and his cell phone to authorities. Subsequently, Murgatroyd had no choice but to leave the airport without her husband while still nursing their son.
As she explained it in her Instagram stories, she expressed disappointment towards what happened.
“I get it, it’s the law. I understand the process,” she said. “But we weren’t even given a chance to explain.”
Fortunately, Chmerkovskiy was simply charged a fine and was eventually let go. Reflecting on this personal experience, Murgatroyd said she freaked out during that moment. She ended her update by saying that she is looking forward to enjoying their family’s time at the Beaches Resort.
PETA is still nursing her son? How old is he?
