Fans of American Idol may have noticed that one standout performer was missing during the Genre Challenge and the Duets Challenge. TikTok star Benson Boone was labeled as an early frontrunner in the competition. He is now rumored to have left the show completely. Is there any truth behind this rumor?
Benson Boone Has Reportedly Quit ‘American Idol’
The 18-year-old from Washington has only been singing for a year but seriously sounds like a professional. Benson currently has 1.4 million followers on TikTok and first impressed the judges with his rendition of ‘Punchline by Aidan Martin. The judges were floored by his audition and how humble he is.
He was full of excitement when he was voted through to the next round of the competition. So much so that he did a backflip in the audition room. Katy Perry even predicted that Benson would win the show, and so did we.
But, it looks like that might not happen this season. Fans began to speculate about what happened to Benson since we have not seen him during Hollywood week.

According to Meaww, Benson voluntarily decided to quit the show. Anilee List has reportedly replaced him in the competition. One major reason why fans and ‘Idol’ forums think Benson left the competition is to pursue an exciting new opportunity. The teen recently posted several TikTok videos to show that he is currently working on a project with Imagine Dragons.

In one video, Benson sits in disbelief next to Dan Reynolds, the lead singer of Imagine Dragons.
In another video, Dan sits at a piano and Benson stands behind him as the pair duet the song “Follow You.” He teased that they have been “working on something really big” and they “cannot wait to share it with you.” Many of Benson’s fans pointed out that they did not see him during the last two episodes of American Idol in the comments section of this video.
Benson also posted a video recording an original song and asked fans what he should name it.
How Will Benson’s Departure From The Show Effect The Competition?
Benson has yet to publicly address his future in the competition. It definitely seems like he is busy pursuing other projects just based on his most recent TikTok videos. But if the rumors are true and he is no longer a part of American Idol, what does this mean for the other contestants?
This season has really focused on bringing in social media stars to add a fresh new perspective to the show. Claudia Conway who was eliminated during Hollywood Week and Mary Jo Young also have huge TikTok followings. Mary Jo might be able to pull in the support of her TikTok followers to earn votes if she makes it to the live shows.
