This Dancing With the Stars judge has another project on the rise amid the show’s move to Disney + this fall. Derek Hough’s original dance series Dance The World With Derek Hough will also find its home on Disney + in the near future.
On May 17, Hough took to social media to announce his new Disney + series, Dance The World With Derek Hough. The upcoming series brings the celebrity’s love of dance and nature into one. He will guide viewers around the world in search of the roots of the most popular dance styles.
Along with the dances, Hough will also explore the cultures, environments, and people of the areas. Each episode will feature the dancer and a celebrity guest uncovering the origins and cultures that shaped a certain dance. This new series is created alongside National Geographic, whom Hough has loved since his youth.
“I have been an avid fan of National Geographic as long as I can remember. My Dad had a massive collection until one day I unfortunately destroyed them all by cutting the Tigers and Lions out of them,” Hough wrote. “Today is a very exciting day as my life long Love of Dance and National Geographic collide in a brand new show !!!”
This series will premiere on Disney + in the future. At this time, Dance The World With Derek Hough has been greenlit by the network. It can be assumed that the National Geographic team is in pre-production along with Hough for the upcoming series. The network has not secured a premiere date at this time.
Will Derek Hough Still Judge Dancing With the Stars?
While fans are excited to see Hough branch out into his own dance series, many suspect that it will take him away from Dancing With the Stars. Hough began as a dancer on DWTS in season five (2007) and has won the Mirrorball six times since his departure in 2016.
Since departing the series as a dancer, he has become a regular judge alongside Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli, and Len Goodman. Earlier this month, Hough confirmed that he will return for the series after its migration to Disney +. While confirming his involvement, he expressed his excitement in the next phase of television.
We expect Hough to find a way to balance filming on top of the upcoming Dancing With the Stars season. During season 30, he was performing nightly at a Las Vegas residency on top of the series, so I’m sure he’ll find a way to balance his work out once again.
