Pop star Demi Lovato is currently nurturing another skill to insert in her talent portfolio. Amazingly, Lovato is set to make her directorial debut with a 2024 documentary about an issue near to her heart.
Demi Lovato to Debut as a Director Next Year
According to a press release, Lovato will direct a “feature-length documentary that aims to “deconstruct the highs and lows of growing up in the spotlight through the lens of some of the world’s most famous former child stars.” Furthermore, Lovato herself would appear on screen and give her own input about the matter.
The “Heart Attack” hitmaker will co-direct along with Nicola Marsh. Additionally, producers consist of Michael D. Ratner’s OBB Pictures, Lovato’s production banner DLG and Scooter Braun’s SB Projects. All of which have worked together before Lovato’s documentary series Dancing With the Devil.
At the moment, the singer-songwriter hasn’t come up with the final title of the project. Yet, for the meantime, Child Star is Lovato’s working title. The finished product will stream exclusively on Hulu next year. This is not a surprise though as Hulu is owned by a Disney, where the pop star jump started her career as a teen. She starred in the movie Camp Rock and television show Sonny With a Chance.
The Documentary Promises to Reconnect with Ex-Child Stars
At present, Lovato nor anyone under her team has revealed the names of former child stars that will be in the film. Nonetheless, the documentary vouches to feature intimate conversations, verité footage, and archival material from all subjects involved.
“There is no better film or topic for my directorial debut than this story, which is close to home,” Lovato said. “Our project sheds light on important messages about growing up in the public eye, learning to protect our boundaries, and becoming active advocates of our own destinies.”
SVP of documentaries and unscripted series at Hulu Originals Belisa Balaban stated that Hulu is not one to “leave any page of their stories unturned.” According to her, the upcoming film bravely displays Lovato’s first-hand experience and personal relationships.
“Demi’s story – hard truths and all – uniquely suits her to the kind of stories we feel fortunate to tell at Hulu,” she said.
