Dancing With The Stars contestant Daniel Durant admits he secretly took dance classes before competing, following his close friend’s advice. The deaf actor reveals the reason behind his skilled performances despite his obvious disability and inexperience in dancing.
The Celebrity Took Dance Classes, Worked Out Before Competing on DWTS
Daniel Durant has been impressing the audience throughout each week of DWTS. It turns out, his CODA costar and DWTS season six competitor Marlee Matlin, advised him to take extra dance classes. He chose to take the advice because Matlin and his other costar Troy Kotsur are two of his biggest supporters. They believe that he has a solid chance at winning the Mirrorball Trophy, and he is one of the next generations of dancers.
After hearing that Durant would compete on the season, Matlin immediately FaceTimed him to give advice. She told him to go workout, take secret dance classes and find training before the show began.
“I started doing everything,” Durant said. “I took some dance classes. I worked out before I moved to L.A.”
His secret dance classes and gym sessions are the reason his dances have been so stunning on the season. While some believe this is cheating, it’s important to keep in mind that some of the other celebrities have a dance background.
Britt Stewart is Proud of His Improvement
Durant’s partner Britt Stewart is perhaps the most proud of Durant’s improvements. Stewart praised her partner’s growth and improvement in a post on her Instagram expressing how proud she is of Durant.
The professional dancer has been with Durant since the beginning of the show and has seen all the practice and effort he’s put in. After James Bond night, Stewart posted about how proud she is of Durant after their performance.
Their performance earned them a 31 out of 40 score which puts them at the fourth-highest placing that night. According to Stewart, her partner is still continually improving as the show goes on each week. Durant attributes his success to Stewart being grateful for all she has done for him including learning sign language.
Durant hopes he can set a great example in the deaf community by competing. For the upcoming Disney+ themed night, their duo will do a Quickstep routine to “Finally Free,” from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series.
