Dan + Shay Say Blake Shelton “Stopped Answering Our Calls” About The Voice
Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney still can’t believe that they’ll be the first duo to ever sit on the double red chair. Amid preparation for their performance on the CMA Awards, the two talked to Audacy’s Sabrina From Queens, quipping that they’re not getting any help from Shelton.
“We tried to call Blake, he stopped answering our calls,” Smyer said. “I think he changed his number, got too big time.”
Smyers nonetheless quickly took back what he said, saying “No, Blake’s amazing.” He then added, “Reba is amazing,” too.
Reflecting on the milestone, Smyer stated that it’s an honor to take over the historic double chair. He subsequently described their experience so far as “crazy.”
“I don’t know why they chose us, but we got a big ol’ double chair — two chairs, one button. We gotta be locked in,” Smyers said.
While Season 24 is still ongoing, Dan + Shay have already taken on some coaching responsibilities for Season 25. For those who may not know, Blind Auditions for Seasons 24 and 25 were filmed in July. They Temporarily Replace Niall Horan for Season 24 Knockout Round Rehearsals
During Team Niall’s preparation for the Season 24 Knockout Rounds, the country duo temporarily took over Niall Horan’s coaching responsibilities. On the show, the former One Direction member introduced his team to the duo who revealed themselves while wearing Horan’s masks.
“I know you’re coming on here for season 25, so it’s good practice for you guys,” Horan said. “I’ll send you all the info on the team. I’ll send videos, I’ll introduce you to them all so you can get to know them before you rock up here.”
Smyers and Mooney were joined by new mega mentor Wynonna Judd during rehearsals.
“This is gonna be so much fun, obviously, man, we’re always here for you,” Mooney said. “I heard you got a stacked team, so we’re pretty excited.”
As they gear up for the role, Horan told the duo that he wants his artists to unleash their individuality.
“Tell them to connect to the song as much as they can,” he said. “So if you can do that for me while I’m away, no pressure, boys. Keep in touch, boys, I love you very much.”
