What Is ‘The Real Dirty Dancing’ on FOX?
The new competition series will premiere on February 1 and continue to air on Tuesdays in February at 9 p.m. The show is hosted by Stephen “tWitch” Boss of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, who also hosts Clash of the Cover Bands on E!
The Real Dirty Dancing is set at Mountain Lake Lodge in Virginia, where the original movie was filmed. Eight celebrities will pair up to recreate dance routines from the movie Dirty Dancing, which was set in 1963 and starred Jennifer Grey and Patrick Swayze as the central couple.
The new American version of the series is actually based on an Australian format, which aired in 2019. Former Dancing with the Stars pro dancer Kym Johnson worked as a choreographer on the Australian show.
Which Celebrities Will Appear on the Show?
Eight celebrities will be competing on The Real Dirty Dancing: former WWE star Brie Bella, Dancing with the Stars runner-up Corbin Bleu, The Bachelorette alum Tyler Cameron, celebrity chef Cat Cora, Backstreet Boys star Howie Dorough, former NFL player Antonio Gates, and comedians Anjelah Johnson-Reyes and Loni Love.
Brie Bella posted about her involvement with the series on Twitter Wednesday, sharing some cute photos of the cast hanging out at the Mountain Lake Lodge during filming. According to Variety, one man and one woman will be named “Johnny” and “Baby” by the finale.
“This was an amazing group of people who became family,” Bella wrote to accompany her Twitter post. “Follow us all along as we celebrate one of the most iconic movies of all time!”
