Catie Turner Releases New EP Comedy & Tragedy: Act 1
On June 9, Turner explained how and why she wrote the EP’s first track, “Comedy & Tragedy.” According to the singer, she co-wrote the song with a friend during days when her father was battling cancer.
“I wrote “comedy & tragedy” with jonny (a forever friend and honorary brother) the day my dad started chemo in january 2022,” she wrote. “Fast forward to july, we were adding harmonies to the second chorus when i got the call informing me chemo has failed and he was entering hospice.”
Turner expressed that she feels overwhelmed “in a sentimental, gratifying way.” Two days before the EP’s official released, the “God Must Hate Me” singer stated that no amount of dark humor and self-deprecation can remedy her grief. Nonetheless, Turner said that even for a few moments, it’s nice to remember that her father was loved.
Furthermore, Turner stated that “Comedy & Tragedy” alongside Jonny has seen her through her lowest moments. The “Home” performer also said that she’s “eternally grateful” that her voice got the chance to be heard despite that she wants to shut down from the world before.
“dear dad, you always wanted a song written about you. im just sorry it has to be this. i love u all. comedy & tragedy: act 1 out now,” she wrote.
The EP is a six-track music collection that begins with “Comedy & Tragedy” and ends with “Hometown.” The first track is Turner’s newest song among other songs in the EP.
