BTS Cancels Shows In Their Home Country South Korea Due To Coronavirus

Boy band BTS was forced to cancel concerts in their home country of South Korea this week due to the spread of coronavirus. Fans are likely to be disappointed, but it’s an important decision.

According to Reuters, South Korea reported 571 new cases of coronavirus on Friday. That takes the total number of cases to 2,337 in the country, making it the largest outbreak outside of China. Sixteen people have died from the virus in South Korea.

BTS Cancels Shows Due To Coronavirus

The shows in question aren’t scheduled until April, but the band has already chosen to cancel them. According to Yahoo, the group tweeted the news with a message from their management.

“We regret to announce that the BTS MAP OF THE SOUL TOUR – SEOUL Concert, originally scheduled to be held on April 11 (Sat), 12 (Sun), 18 (Sat) and 19 (Sun) at Olympic Stadium, has been canceled,” read the statement, explaining that it was “impossible” to do the shows “at this time.”

It went on to explain that the decision was made while considering “the health and safety of hundreds of thousands of guests as well as our artists and the dire impact a last-minute cancellation may have on guests from overseas, production companies and staff.”

BTS Promotes Album In The United States

BTS has been in the United States this week to promote their new album Map of the Soul: 7. They performed their new song “ON” at Grand Central Terminal in New York, and then held an interview with Jimmy Fallon on the subway.
