Gomez shared that his family moved from the Dominican Republic to Miami when he was 11 years old. Shortly after their move, his father had a stroke. Seven years later, he sadly passed away. To cope with the loss, Gomez said he “turned to music and dancing and the arts.”
The singer’s dancing career took off, and he got to work with stars such as Britney Spears, Jennifer Lopez, and Christina Aguilera. After he shared this, the show played a video message from Spears herself.
“Willie is a dancer of mine, and not only is he a great dancer, but he is an amazing singer. And I’m sending all my kisses to you,” Spears said in the clip, before blowing a kiss and telling Gomez, “Love you.”
For his Blind Audition, Gomez performed the Spanish-language song “La Bachata” by Manuel Turizo. The 37-year-old singer turned all four coaches’ chairs and ultimately chose to join John Legend’s team.

During Tuesday’s new episode of The Voice, coach John Legend earned two more four-chair turns for his team. In addition to Willie Gomez, Legend also got Caleb Sasser to join his team after he turned four chairs with his performance of “Another Sad Love Song” by Toni Braxton.
Before Season 24 began airing, the coaches tried to predict which team would win. Niall Horan pointed out that Legend’s team this season is “crazy,” and we’re beginning to understand why. Could Legend finally get his second win as a coach?
