‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Could See a Big Format Change Next Year

Next year’s Britain’s Got Talent competition could see a big change from how the show currently operates. As part of a reported £100million deal, the series could end up airing over three months instead of the usual seven weeks.
Could Britain’s Got Talent Air Over Three Months Next Year?
Fans of America’s Got Talent might be surprised to learn that BGT usually only airs over seven weeks, as both the Semifinals and Finals wrap up in a week’s time after several weeks of auditions. However, that might change in future seasons.
According to The Sun, the show’s bosses are prepared to sign a £100million deal to extend the competition over three months — from February to May. Recently, the seasons have run from mid-April to early June.
BGT is reportedly reaching the end of its five-year contract in 2025, with ITV expected to agree to either a three-year deal or another five-year deal. The show has racked up 24 billion online views, although viewership is down to 7 million from 13 million in 2009.
“BGT has been on since 2007 and viewing numbers are higher than ever — it’s just fans are watching it differently,” a source told The Sun. “Stretching BGT over three months could make it even more of a presence. Online is where advertisers are now pumping in their money, but to get the clips they need the show.”

What Would a Longer Season Look Like?
According to The Sun, a three-month version of BGT would apparently feature six Saturdays of auditions, followed by six Saturdays of Semifinals shows, and then a finale. There might even be Sunday results shows, similar to how AGT airs results the night after performances.
This season, the show has been airing a typical shorter season, which premiered April 20. This week, acts have been performing in the Semifinals for their last chance to make it to the finale, which will air on Sunday, June 2.
