In a recent interview, country singer Blake Shelton opened up about his role as a stepfather to Gwen Stefani’s three boys—Apollo, 9, Zuma, 15, and Kingston, 17. Reflecting on his own experiences with step-parents, Shelton acknowledges the challenges, while also emphasizing the importance of being there, when needed.

Blake Shelton Takes Step-Parenting “Very Seriously”

The 47-year-old country star highlighted the significance of balancing involvement and giving space, showcasing his dedication to the role of a stepfather. In a candid moment captured in October, Shelton shared laughter and pulled a subtle prank on Stefani’s son Zuma during her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. This clearly showed off Shelton’s genuine connection with the boys.

“I’ve had step-parents,” Shelton said. “I think it’s, in some ways, harder, more difficult. I try to be careful about when to step back and be smart about when to step back and just talk, but no matter what, I’m always there if I’m needed.”

In a previous interview, Shelton further showcased his commitment to family. He expressed a prioritization of family over career at this stage of his life, emphasizing that being a step-parent is a responsibility he takes seriously.

“Even though I’m a step-parent, I take that job very seriously,” Shelton said. “The kids see me as a very important person in their life.”

Although Shelton has found success in the country music industry, he acknowledges the importance of not missing out on crucial family moments. “I’ve made plenty of money, but you can’t buy time back,” he said while expressing the need for family moments.

Blake Shelton Opens Up About Life With Gwen Stefani

Beyond his role as a stepfather, Shelton also shared a glimpse into his life in Oklahoma with Stefani. The couple, who tied the knot two years ago, finds solace in the Southwest. Shelton notes that Stefani has embraced a different side of herself in the country setting.

“I’m not going to say that she’s become this country girl,” Shelton said. “But I just think we’re starting to see a different side of Gwen.”

Shelton praised Stefani’s versatility as an artist, noting how country music has allowed her to showcase her incredible vocal and songwriting talents. The couple even collaborated on a cover of The Judds’ “Love Is Alive,” with Shelton expressing enthusiasm for more joint musical ventures in the future.

“Oh my God, Gwen, yes, more music please,” Shelton said. “I need that. My career needs you to record more music with me, Gwen.”

In both his role as a stepfather and his life with Stefani, Shelton exemplifies a down-to-earth and heartfelt approach. He prioritizes the importance of family and cherishing the moments that truly matter.
