Reading Time: 2 minutes
You may not associate magic routines with emotional moments, but BGT contestant Marc Spelmann was an exception. In 2018, he delivered an emotional performance with a deeply personal theme.
The audition had everyone in tears, and Marc even received the Golden Buzzer for his talent. Check out the performance in the video below, and find out more about Marc’s Got Talent journey.
Marc Spelmann Auditions For ‘BGT’
Marc told the BGT judges that magic changed his life two years before his audition. He approached the table and asked the judges to help him out with the trick. Amanda Holden was tasked with mixing up a Rubik’s cube, while David Walliams chose a crayon at random.

Alesha Dixon, meanwhile, chose a random card belonging to Marc’s daughter. Simon Cowell marked a seemingly random circle on a book. Marc told the judges he knew what the outcome of their tasks would be before the show.
Marc then shared the story of his two-year-old daughter. He and his wife went through five years of IVF, and his wife was diagnosed with cancer while she was pregnant. Their daughter Isabella “made it through chemotherapy to make our dreams come true.”
The video package then included footage of Isabella predicting the judges’ choices, from a red crayon to the word “hat.” The BGT audience and judges were in tears over the emotional story.
Marc Earns The Golden Buzzer From Ant & Dec
The BGT judges gave Marc a standing ovation for his performance. Hosts Ant and Dec were also impressed by the audition, so much so that they ran out to hit the Golden Buzzer while the judges were sharing their thoughts.

Marc was unfortunately eliminated from the competition in the semifinals, but that wasn’t the end of his Got Talent journey. He returned to the show in 2019, this time disguised as a masked magician named X. He made it to the final, where he revealed his identity.
The magician also competed on AGT: The Champions, this time as Marc Spelmann again. His performance on the show featured a cameo from past AGT winner and fellow magician Shin Lim.
