Beyoncé Omits Song Lyric Mentioning Lizzo During Recent Concert

Beyoncé appeared to omit Lizzo’s name from her song “Break My Soul (Queens Remix)” during a recent concert. The choice was presumably in response to a recent lawsuit from Lizzo’s former dancers for alleged sexual harassment and weight-shaming.

Beyoncé Omits Lizzo’s Name from Song During Concert

In the Queens Remix of her song “Break My Soul,” Beyoncé usually shouts out several famous Black women in music, including Lizzo. However, during a recent concert in Boston, Lizzo’s name was missing from the lyrics.

Instead, Beyoncé sang “Badu” four times, referring to Erykah Badu. Despite the apparent omission, CNN reports that Lizzo’s name still appeared on the screen behind the singer like it usually does during the performance.

In June, Lizzo reacted to a previous performance of the song in an Instagram video, calling it “an honor” to be mentioned in the lyrics. The recent omission presumably stems from news of a lawsuit filed by Lizzo’s former dancers.

Lizzo Is Being Sued by Her Former Dancers

Earlier this week, it was revealed that three of Lizzo’s former dancers had filed a lawsuit against the singer for alleged harassment and creating a hostile work environment. The lawsuit cites an incident at a club in Amsterdam in which Lizzo allegedly pressured a dancer to touch the nude performers.

One dancer also claimed that Lizzo shared “thinly veiled” concerns about her “weight gain.” In turn, the dancer felt pressured to “explain her weight gain and disclose intimate personal details about her life in order to keep her job.”

Another former dancer who is not a part of the lawsuit, Courtney Hollinquest, wrote on Instagram that “this was very much my experience in my time there.” Lizzo’s former creative director Quinn Wilson echoed this on her own account.

So far, Lizzo has not commented publicly on the allegations.
