Artem Chigvintsev is Hoping His Son Will Follow in His Footsteps
Ahead of Whitney Houston Week on DWTS, the pro dancer shared his desire to pass down his dance legacy to Matteo, whom he shares with his wife Nikki Garcia.
“First of all, I never thought I’d be a dad, then I never thought I would have a son,” Chigvintsev said. “He’s part of the crew. I feel like the dance legacy needs to continue and hopefully, it’ll better the juniors. Then, who knows, all of our children will be actually doing it right.”
Regarding expanding the family, Chigvintsev humorously dodged the question, pointing out he wouldn’t be carrying the baby for nine months. Other DWTS pros like Jenna Johnson and Val Chmerkovskiy also see potential dance future for their 10-month-old son, Rome. Similarly, Daniella Karagach and Pasha Pashkov also see potential dance future for their 6-month-old daughter, Nikita.
This week, Chigvintsev and his celebrity partner Charity Lawson were thrilled about guest judge Billy Porter bringing a “breath of fresh air” to the competition. Despite not receiving high scores from previous guest judges, they pleasantly received a remarkable score of 39 out of 40.

Enthusiastically, he mentioned that having a girl would be a delightful addition to their lives, sprinkling some dreams and hopes into their future. The couple’s journey has been a whirlwind, from meeting on DWTS to becoming engaged, getting married, and joyfully welcoming their son, Matteo, into the world in July 2020.

Sharing their life’s happenings, Garcia recalled the remarkable coincidence of both she and her twin sister, Brie Garcia, giving birth within 22 hours of each other, marveling at the similarities between their sons, Matteo and Buddy Dessert.
