A cringeworthy clip of Ant and Dec performing as teenagers in the 1990s recently resurfaced, leaving the duo mortified. Fans chimed in on the “difficult watch” full of nostalgia, while others complimented their early musical attempt.

Ant and Dec Left Red-Faced at Cheesy 1990s Music Video

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly felt “mortified” after a 1994 clip of them singing “Eternal Love” as their Byker Grove alter egos PJ & Duncan recirculated online. The British presenting icons admitted the dated green screen music video makes for agonizing viewing nearly 30 years later. Fans largely found it hilarious and nostalgic, while sympathizing with their embarrassment.

The now-viral video captures 19-year-old Ant and Dec performing their original love song on This Morning surrounded by Christmas trees. The teenage duo sports 1990s fashion like baggy graphic t-shirts and exposed boxer waistbands.

Ant and Dec commented “It’s a more difficult watch for us” on the post, acknowledging that the show is viewed differently today. However, one fan questioned whether their musical pursuit was genuine or just a joke. On the other hand, another fan reassured them that despite any difficulties in watching, it was still the highlight of their day.

Current This Morning host Zoe Williams suggested starting a petition for them to return and replay the act. Even Richard Madeley’s daughter reminisced on her dad co-hosting the episode. Clearly, the cringey clip flooded viewers with fond flashbacks, if not secondhand embarrassment.

Early Musical Attempt Preceded Illustrious Hosting Careers

Before becoming Britain’s most popular primetime hosts, Ant and Dec first rose to fame playing PJ and Duncan on teen drama Byker Grove. Their musical efforts as those characters scored charting hits in the early 90s amongst adolescent fans. Documentarian Stacey Dooley admitted watching their This Morning clip “approx 100 times.”

Now widely celebrated for shows like Britain’s Got Talent and I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here, Ant and Dec still causing a viral stir with their dated ditty underscores their enduring cultural footprint. While the unsophisticated video elicits some wincing decades later, it demonstrates the beloved entertainers’ early talents en route to legendary status.

Perhaps if the reaction warrants it, the savvy hosts will leverage the meme into some sort of self-deprecating skit to fully own the campy clip. As they continue mastering broadcasting through decades side-by-side, Ant and Dec can add inspiring mass viral nostalgia to their long list of achievements.
