Earlier this week, Taylor Hicks took to Instagram to post an image of himself during his run on American Idol in 2006. As he wrote in the post’s caption, “Stay tuned for some big @americanidol news soon.” He added a winky face emoji.
A fan shared Hicks’ post on the Idol subreddit, sparking fans to speculate about Hicks possibly returning to the show this season. One fan suggested that he’ll appear on the episode airing on May 4, celebrating the 20th anniversary of his win.
“Honestly I’ve loved the tradition of celebrating the winners/contestants on their 20th anniversary,” the user wrote. Another fan pointed out that the show celebrated judge Carrie Underwood’s Season 4 win during last year’s season.

Hicks Is Releasing New Music
To mark the 20th anniversary of his American Idol win, Taylor Hicks recently told local news in Dallas that he’s releasing a new song called “The Mirror.” As he said, “I don’t release a lot of music, and so when I do release music, it means a lot to me.”
During the interview, Hicks teased that American Idol is doing a “20-year Season 5 reunion” this year, which makes us wonder what other past contestants might be returning. Will runner-up Katharine McPhee be back on the show as well?
