Beckham posted a video of him and Moore performing “What Brings Life Also Kills” at a recent live show. In the caption, he wrote about how much the song has meant to him over the years, and what an amazing experience it was to perform it with Moore himself.
“It’s not every day a song can change your life in in as many ways as this song changed mine,” Beckham wrote. “To go from listening to this song over and over again in my tuck [sic] on my commute, to learning it in my bedroom, to singing it in front of the Idol judges, to sing it again on live broadcast with a full band, and then sing it in stage with Kolton is the absolute craziest thing that’s ever happened to me in my life.”
Beckham added that he’s “grateful” for Moore, writing, “I can honestly say I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for this man and his music.” He included the hashtag #musicsavedmylife.

Beckham Has Been Open About His Struggles
During his time on American Idol, Beckham was open about his struggles with alcohol. After driving while intoxicated and getting into a car crash, Beckham decided to turn his life around. He has said that his time on the show helped him with that.
“On the show, I learned how to be myself without all those substances,” he said in an interview last year. “I learned how to address my nerves without those things, and found the same person I was without those crutches or vices by confronting all of those things head-on.”
Beckham performed “What Brings Life Also Kills” in his audition, and he sang it again later when he was competing in the Top 12. He received a standing ovation from the judges before he went on to become the Season 19 American Idol winner.
