Reading Time: 2 minutes
American Idol fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see the show this Sunday, as it’s set to air after the Oscars on ABC. The show is currently in the middle of airing auditions for Season 21, with judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan.
American Idol Will Air After the Oscars This Week
The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, will air this Sunday night on ABC, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel. The ceremony will honor the year’s best films in various categories. After that, fans will be able to watch a new episode of American Idol Season 21.
The Oscars are scheduled to start airing at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday night. The ceremony is known for running long, so be sure to check back throughout the evening to catch the start of the new Idol episode when it eventually airs.
This will mark the fourth episode of auditions this season, as the judges search for the best singers in the country. So far, they’ve given out two Platinum Tickets, to singers Tyson Venegas and Kaylin Hedges. Fans also voted last year to give another platinum ticket to Elijah McCormick.

This Is the Show’s Sixth Season on ABC
This year marks American Idol‘s sixth season airing on ABC. Previously, the show aired on FOX. Judges Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan have remained on the panel for all six recent seasons. Host Ryan Seacrest, meanwhile, has been with the show since it started.
Last season, singer Noah Thompson won the show in its 20th season, with HunterGirl coming in second place. It’s only a matter of time before we find out who wins Season 21. Have we already met them, or is their audition coming up later?
Following the audition round, the singers who earned Golden Tickets from the judges will compete in Hollywood Week. After that, the remaining contestants will perform in Hawaii for a chance to go to the live shows.
