American Idol has shared a fun new trailer for Season 22 of the show, premiering in February. The clip is themed to The Wizard of Oz, with the show’s judges and hosts standing in for the movie’s iconic characters.

American Idol Shares New Season 22 Trailer

The new trailer starts with judge Katy Perry dressed like Dorothy, complete with ruby slippers. She walks along a road paved with Golden Tickets to Hollywood. As she says, “I don’t think we’re in our hometowns anymore.”

She’s then joined by her fellow judges Lionel Richie (as the Cowardly Lion) and Luke Bryan (as the Scarecrow), along with the show’s longtime host Ryan Seacrest, dressed in a silver suit as the Tin Man.

The trailer shows the four of them visiting various towns around the country, home to past contestants such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Adam Lambert, and Iam Tongi. Their road leads to Hollywood, as Seacrest says, “Somewhere over the rainbow, a star will be born.”

The trailer ends with the judges and hosts walking through the golden gates, as Perry clicks her heels together and says, “There’s no place like American Idol.”
