‘American Idol’ Season 22 Is Filming in Hawaii, Guest Mentors Announced

Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Ryan Seacrest

American Idol Season 22 has begun filming performances in Hawaii, and this year’s celebrity guest mentors were also announced for the Top 24 round. Jelly Roll and Tori Kelly will help the contestants prepare for their performances.

American Idol Filming Season 22 in Hawaii

It has become a tradition for the Top 24 contestants on American Idol to perform at Disney’s Aulani resort in Hawaii. It looks like this season is no different, as the judges and contestants have recently been filming the Hawaii performances.

On Camera Audiences listed performances on February 7 and 8 at Aulani, allowing fans to request tickets to attend. As Heavy points out, the show’s panel and host had some fun together between filming. Katy Perry and Lionel Richie were photographed at Bar Maze in Honolulu. Ryan Seacrest was also apparently in attendance.

Although the judges will share their feedback for the contestants during the Hawaii portion of the competition, it will ultimately be up to the fans at home to decide which singers deserve a spot in the live shows.

Jelly Roll, Tori Kelly Will Be Guest Mentors

During the Hawaii round of the competition, the Top 24 contestants get advice about their performances from celebrity guest mentors. This season, those mentors have been announced to be Jelly Roll and Tori Kelly.

As reported by Entertainment Tonight, Kelly is an Idol alum. She competed in Season 9 of the show when she was just 18 years old, reaching Hollywood Week. Both guest mentors will also reportedly be performing on the show.

We won’t get to see the Hawaii round on our screens until later in the season. For now, fans can tune in to the Season 22 premiere on Sunday, February 18, on ABC. Let us know in the comments below if you’re excited to watch.
