‘American Idol’ Top 20 Revealed as Contestants Perform for America’s Vote

American Idol Season 22 returned on Sunday night for a three-hour show in which the Top 20 contestants were revealed. Those singers performed for a chance to earn America’s vote and make it into the Top 14, to be revealed on Monday night.
UPDATE (4/16/24): The Top 14 singers were revealed during Monday night’s show. They are McKenna Faith Breinholt, Jordan Anthony (judges’ save), Jack Blocker, Mia Matthews, KAYKO, Nya (judges’ save), Will Moseley, Abi Carter, Kaibrienne, Emmy Russell, Julia Gagnon, Jayna Elise (judges’ save), Triston Harper, and Roman Collins (judges’ save).
American Idol Top 20 Revealed in Three-Hour Show
Last week, the Top 24 singers performed in Hawaii for a chance to continue in the competition. It was up to America to vote for their favorite contestants, which decided who should move on in the Top 20. Those results were revealed on Sunday night’s episode.
Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to four contestants during the show. Those singers turned out to be Blake Proehl, Elleigh Marie, KBlocks, and Hailey Mia (whom you might remember from her time on The Voice Season 21). The rest of last week’s performers got another chance on Sunday night.
All three of this season’s Platinum Ticket winners once again made it through to the next round. That includes Abi Carter, who stunned with a slowed-down rendition of “Welcome to the Black Parade” by My Chemical Romance, in honor of her late grandparents. Judge Katy Perry was brought to tears by the performance.
Odell Bunton Jr. also impressed with his soulful rendition of “The Door” by Teddy Swims. The singer brought incredible power and passion to the performance, prompting a standing ovation from the judges. Odell also impressed Teddy Swims himself, who was there as a guest performer.
The final singer to earn a spot in the Top 20 was Julia Gagnon, who broke down in tears when she found out she was still in the competition. She only had a few moments to recover before performing “I Believe” by Fantasia. She got choked up again as she performed the final words.
America’s Vote Will Decide the Top 14
Voting was open overnight for America to decide which singers they wanted to see in the Top 14. Those results will be revealed live on Monday night. There were plenty of amazing performances in Sunday night’s show, meaning it will be tough to see six more singers go home.
Some of the other impressive performances from Sunday’s show included McKenna Faith Breinholt’s rendition of “Both Sides Now” by Joni Mitchell, as well as Triston Harper’s emotional original song “H-O-P-E.” Nya also wowed with her cover of “Georgia On My Mind” by Ray Charles, dedicated to her late father.
Then there was Kennedy Reid, who shot back at her online haters with a performance of “Love Can Build a Bridge” by The Judds. As she said, “I’m not gonna give up on my dream because somebody doesn’t like my wig. Period.” Katy Perry called it her “metamorphosis moment.”
