‘American Idol’ Runner-Up HunterGirl Releases Emotional New Single

American Idol Season 20 runner-up HunterGirl released a new song on Friday called “Ain’t About You.” The self-written song is an emotional expression of the singer’s insecurities as she pursued a career in music.
HunterGirl Releases New Single ‘Ain’t About You’
“If you give up, if you give in / You should know that you’re not the only one who’s losing,” HunterGirl sings on the song’s uplifting chorus. “What if there’s a little girl who needs a song / Telling her she’s beautiful when the world tells her she’s wrong?”
HunterGirl wrote “Ain’t About You” just two weeks before she auditioned for American Idol, as she chased her dream in Nashville. She got the courage to share the track after playing it for Idol winners Noah Thompson and Chayce Beckham.
“If there’s anybody out there right now thinking about giving up on a dream or something they love, I hope they listen to this song and think twice about it,” HunterGirl shared in a press release. “We’re all here to do something special.”
The song serves as a touching reminder that “there’s purpose in the wait.” In an Instagram video, HunterGirl called the track her “45-minute conversation with Jesus” and “the song that kept me in Nashville.”

The Singer ‘Cried Like a Baby’ Writing the Song
HunterGirl told Hollywood Life that she “cried like a baby” while she wrote “Ain’t About You,” adding, “I’m working on a project right now and thinking about the songs I wanted to be on it, and this song just means so much to me. It might be the first song I’ve ever released that I wrote 100 percent of.”
Since her time on Idol, the singer has released several singles, including “Red Bird,” “Hometown Out of Me,” and “Lonely Outta You.” She also collaborated with Thompson on a duet version of his song “One Day Tonight,” which they performed during Season 21 earlier this year.
