American Idol is officially accepting video auditions for Season 20. As the current season comes to an end, the show is looking ahead to finding next year’s rising stars, and you could be one of them.
The show made the announcement on Instagram this week, ahead of Sunday’s Season 19 finale, when the winner will finally be crowned. Idol was recently renewed for another season at ABC, and this is the first step to getting in the door.
‘American Idol’ Now Accepting Video Auditions
If you’re interested in auditioning for American Idol next season, there are two things you can do. Either you can sign up for virtual audition updates, or you can submit a video audition on the website. If you’d like to audition both ways, you can.
If you’d like to keep up to date about virtual auditions, sign up here. You’ll be alerted about dates for virtual open calls and online auditions via email or text. There’s also the option to submit a video of your audition right away if you would prefer not to wait.
Before you submit an audition, make sure that you’ll be at least 15 years old by Sept. 15, 2021. Then head here to sign up. According to the FAQ, if you prefer to upload a pre-existing video, you may do so. You can also link to a YouTube video of your singing.
Video auditions will be accepted until Oct. 15, 2021. You may only submit one video audition for the upcoming season. Sing an original song or any part of an existing song, with or without an instrument. If you’re selected for a callback, you’ll be notified via email or phone.

What to Expect from the Season 19 Finale
While American Idol prepares for Season 20, we’re waiting for this Sunday’s Season 19 finale. The Top 3 (Chayce Beckham, Grace Kinstler, and Willie Spence) will perform for America’s vote, and a winner will be crowned.
The finale will also feature a star-studded lineup of performers, including all three judges, as well as Chaka Khan, Alessia Cara, Luke Combs, and Fall Out Boy. We expect that the Top 3 will team up with the guest performers for some amazing duets.
