The American Idol family is currently showing their support for Season 23 finalist, Josh King. On June 9, King’s American Idol family surrounded him while he was hospitalized for multiple days.

Josh King Hospitalized with Life-Threatening Condition Called SIRS

On June 9, King posted a photo of himself in a hospital bed, surrounded by Skylie Marie Thompson and Grayson Torrence. Apparently, the trio was apart of a songwriting retreat in Virginia ahead of King’s hospitalization. The songwriting retreat was hosted by fellow contestant, Nina Daig.

According to King’s Instagram post, the songwriting camp started out well. He then got a good night’s sleep, followed by another good day filled with music. That’s when everything took a turn and King “started to feel a bit iffy (if that’s a way to put it.)”

When the American Idol singer woke up the next morning he was “entirely unable to move.” The singer explained that he “was in such excruciating pain that I evacuated anything that remained in my stomach.”

Daig’s husband then took King to the emergency room, where he spent the rest of the weekend. King shared that his resting heart beat remained as 125-130 bpm and he received an official diagnosis of SIRS (Systemic inflammatory response syndrome).

Doctors confirmed that King had heart strain and had to be monitored for two nights, so he ended up missing the rest of the camp. The doctor also confirmed that the cause of SIRS was a combination of dehydration, fatigue, stress, heat exhaustion, etc.

The American Idol Finalist is Now Released, On The Mend

The final portion of King’s Instagram post confirmed that he is no longer in the hospital. King is now released and “on the mend.” Apparently, the singer had been sharing less on social media, due to “the state of my health.” He finished the statement out, thanking his American Idol family for being there for him while he was in the hospital.

King continued into the competition, making it into the Top 8 of the season. During the Top 8, King sang “Home” by Michael Bublé, which was chosen by Richie. The singer also performed “Dancing on the Ceiling” by Richie with Jamal Roberts and Gabby Samone. At the end of the episode, King was up for elimination alongside Mattie Pruitt. Judges decided to save Pruitt over King.

For those who may not remember, King recently appeared as part of American Idol Season 23. The 24 year old auditioned in Nashville, Tennessee, singing “Over the Rainbow” by Judy Garland and “My Girl” by The Temptations. He earned “yeses” from both Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan. Carrie Underwood gave King a “no.”
