At the end of the first American Idol Season 24 live show, host Ryan Seacrest shared that the results would be delayed until the start of next week’s new episode, due to the “unprecedented” number of votes. Some fans are blaming the new social media voting method for the issue.

Because no one was eliminated during this week’s show, all of the contestants in the Top 14 will have to prepare performances for next week, but only 12 of them will actually take the stage. TV Insider spoke to the contestants in the Top 14 about the twist.

Hannah Harper tried to look on the bright side, saying, “It’s another week to have the opportunity to get coaching and to get training on things that we wouldn’t otherwise if we would have been home. So no matter what, stepping into next week, we’ll have more knowledge than we did this week, even if we go home.”

Daniel Stallworth had a similarly positive approach, saying the wait for results means they “get to spend another week with all of our family members of Idol.” However, he also acknowledged “the anxiety of waiting to see if we are the ones going home.”

What Did Other Contestants Say?

“It’s really tough to fully give it your all knowing that you may not get to sing,” Lucas Leon told TV Insider about the delayed results. “I mean, it just takes a lot of faith, and I honestly was really looking forward to not having to do that again if I were to have made the Top 12 tonight, but I mean, pressure makes diamonds, right?”

Jake Thistle called it “an amazing problem to have,” as the high number of votes suggests how enthusiastic fans are about the show. Meanwhile, Jesse Findling said, “It was just kind of insane, but that just means we get to spend more time with each other, which feels great. So I think it’s a good thing.”

Singer Brooks admitted that he’s “going to be worried the whole week,” but added, “If I’m going to go home and not make the Top 12, I get to spend [time] with all these contestants who are now my family and we just all vibe together day and night.”

The new live episode of American Idol Season 24 will air Monday night on ABC.
