‘Alter Ego’ Bags IBC 2022 Content Creation Award — Will It Return for Another Season?
Reading Time: 2 minutes
Alter Ego has recently received the IBC 2022 Innovation Award for Content Creation. Since Alter Ego has just won an award, fans are wondering whether it’ll return for season 2 on FOX. Here’s everything we know.
Alter Ego Earns Content Creation Award
Truly an inventive take to a competition series, Alter Ego has won one of IBC’s prestigious Social Impact and Innovation Awards, specifically in the category of Content Creation. This award echoes the increasing relevance of virtual content and augmented reality in the creation of original content.
Alter Ego prevailed over Expo Dubai and Green Planet AR which were also shortlisted for the award.
Indeed, Fox Alternative Entertainment successfully managed to pull of that concept when they launched the music game show in the national television. Essentially, Alter Ego centers on regular people turning into animated characters by wearing motion capture suits. Real performers become vibrant and fashionably-designed avatars through the show. These digital superstars are not allowed to show their actual appearance unless they are voted out of the competition.
The competition show is hosted by Rocsi Diaz. Featuring Grimes, Will.i.am, Alanis Morissette, and boy band member Nick Lachey as panel of judges, Alter Ego premiered on September 22, 2021 and ended on December 8, 2021.
Dipper Scott was hailed as the first ever winner of the show. Subsequently, he released his first song produced by judge Will.I.Am.
Will There be Alter Ego Season 2?
Since the pilot episode, Alter Ego has gotten mixed reviews from the public. Some believed that incorporating technology to a music competition is a unique touch. Meanwhile, others still prefer real performers over the digital.
Conversations on Reddit construe the show as “dull” because audiences feel “disconnected” when watching the avatars.
“It is very interesting, but I agree, it’s not quite at the level of amazing that American Idol once was and same with The Voice, and definitely not as fun as The Masked Singer,” a Reddit user wrote. “Being safe and boring is only going to get you so far.”
Nonetheless, despite multiple criticisms, several still stand that Alter Ego has potential. There hasn’t been an official announcement if Alter Ego will be renewed or cancelled, therefore leaving fans on a limbo.
According to TV Series Finale, the season premiere averaged a 0.42 rating in the 18-49 demographic and reached 2.2 million viewers in the live and same day ratings. For a pilot season, these numbers are relatively impressive. These may or may not signify a possible comeback, but it’s really up to the executives if they will give Alter Ego another chance.
