America’s Got Talent Season 14 star Luke Islam has a role in an upcoming movie called Theater Camp, co-starring Dear Evan Hansen‘s Ben Platt. A trailer for the film was just released, and it promises plenty of laughs.

Luke Islam Appears in Theater Camp Movie Trailer

Theater Camp is about, well, a theater camp. The camp, located in upstate New York, features instructors played by Ben Platt and Molly Gordon, who attempt to keep everything afloat as Jimmy Tatro’s character arrives to run the property.

Luke Islam, who reached the Semifinals of America’s Got Talent in Season 14, appears in the new movie as one of the kids attending the camp. The trailer shows off the camp’s quirkiness in a funny parody of theater programs.

“You only have three weeks to create a masterpiece,” Platt’s character tells the campers at one point. “It’s on you. All on you.”

Theater Camp is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 14. The film co-stars Noah Galvin, Platt’s fiancé who also played Evan Hansen on Broadway.

Luke Earned the Golden Buzzer on AGT

Luke Islam was just 12 years old when he auditioned for Season 14 of America’s Got Talent. He ended up earning the Golden Buzzer from judge Julianne Hough for his audition performance of “She Used to Be Mine” from Waitress.

The young singer went on to perform “You Will Be Found” from Dear Evan Hansen and “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman before being eliminated in the Semifinals. Luke later returned for AGT: The Champions in 2020.

Luke, now 16, has continued to perform since his time on the show. Recently, he appeared in an off-Broadway production of the musical Urinetown. He also acted in the Netflix movie 13: The Musical and on the Disney+ series The Might Ducks: Game Changers.

I’m sensing this movie will be gay, but hard to tell whether it will be gay enough.
