‘AGT’ Judges Praise Grace VanderWaal
Stargirl, based on the book by Jerry Spinelli, premieres on Disney+ this Friday, March 13. Grace plays the title character in the film, which also stars Graham Verchere and Giancarlo Esposito.
After her AGT audition with AN original song “I Don’t Know My Name,” Simon Cowell predicted Grace was the next Taylor Swift. She was just 12 years old when she won AGT. Judge Howie Mandel recently talked to Parade about Grace’s success, and his memories of her on the show.
“I’ll never forget that moment when she started singing. It was so unexpected what was coming out of this girl and the words and the wisdom. She’s become a beautiful young lady. I’m so proud of her. I think that we’re just at the beginning of something fantastic.”
Heidi agreed, adding, “I’ve gone to many benefits where she has performed, so I have seen her many times over the years. I’ve seen her progress. She’s amazing.”
Grace Performs New Song From ‘Stargirl’
In addition to acting in Stargirl, Grace has also released a new song for the film’s soundtrack. It’s called “Today and Tomorrow,” and she performed it on Jimmy Kimmel Live Wednesday night.
Dressed in bohemian-style stress, Grace sat cross-legged in front of a microphone and strummed her ukulele. This isn’t Grace’s first song for a movie. Last year, she debuted a song called “Hideaway” for the animated film Wonder Park.
You can stream Stargirl on Disney+ this Friday, March 13.
